Description
Situated six miles north of Rye, in the village of Beckley in the south east corner of East Sussex, the Oxney Organic Estate has been producing award-winning organic wines since 2014. Kristein Syltevik and Paul Dobson are the owners of Oxney who planted the first vines in 2012. Sitting on well drained sand and silt loam the focus is on natural disease resistance with natural sprays, manual weed control and minimal intervention. The wines are made in a Grade II listed Oasthouse with the latest winery equipment to allow accurate temperature control, pneumatic pressing yet maintain their sustainable, low intervention approach to their winemaking. Wood chips sourced from their own coppiced woodland provides the heat in the winery.
Produce from a blend of Pinot Noir, Petit Meunier and Chardonnay which is hand harvested then whole bunch pressed and matured on its lees for 18 months, a small amount is fermented and aged in French Oak. Pale gold in colour, the aromas are fresh with notes of stone fruit with hints of honey , the palate has a creamy texture with a vibrant acidity with flavours of baked bread and ripe fruit all supported with a lovely minerality and a lovely long finish.
Perfect as an aperitif or with Seafood and Shellfish.
