Description

Situated six miles north of Rye, in the village of Beckley in the south east corner of East Sussex, the Oxney Organic Estate has been producing award-winning organic wines since 2014.  Kristein Syltevik and Paul Dobson are the owners of Oxney who planted the first vines in 2012.  Sitting on well drained sand and silt loam the focus is on natural disease resistance with natural sprays, manual weed control and minimal intervention.  The wines are made in a Grade II listed Oasthouse with the latest winery equipment to allow accurate temperature control, pneumatic pressing yet maintain their sustainable, low intervention approach to their winemaking. Wood chips sourced from their own coppiced woodland provides the heat in the winery.

Produced from Petit Meunier the hand-picked grapes are crushed and destemmed. The must is left overnight to soak on the skins, then pressed the following day having extracted just the right amount of colour and character. Fermented in stainless steel to retain the primary fruit flavours a  partial malolactic conversion softens the acidity and adds texture.  A pale and inviting pale pink colour, the aromas are of pomegranate,  cherry and rose petal. The palate is crisp and refreshing with bright red fruits and citrus leading to  a lovely  lingering finish.

Perfect with Grilled Seafood and Shellfish, Grilled Vegetables and Soft Creamy Cheeses.
