Description

Jean-Luc Thunevein and Jean-Roger Calvert produce their wines from Maury, a commune that sits at the foot of the Pyrenees.  Originally from Bordeaux, Thunevan was one of the pioneers for St Emilion ‘garage wine’ in the early 90s, this label was due to the small plots the wine was produced from and some were actually made in a garage!! These wines had little regard for the history of Bordeaux, nevertheless, they were a widely accepted by international wine critics.  His refusal to follow the rules of Bordeaux winemaking made him unpopular with the local establishment, however, time has moved on and with his partner, local Rousillon winemaker Jean-Roger Calvet, they purchased a few hectares of vineyard with exceptional terroir and produced their first wine in 2001.

A perfect blend of Grenache,  Syrah and  Carignan and fermented and aged exclusively in concrete,  this lovely wine has a silky soft texture with aromas of black cherry and raspberry with a hint of chocolate.   Full-bodied with flavours of rich berry  and a hint of spice that lingers deliciously on the finish.

An absolute must with Beef Bourguignon, Rib Eye Steak, Lamb  Mature Blue Cheese.
