Description

The Boekenhoutskloof Winery in Franschhoek, Swartland is owned by Marc Kent and Gottfied Mokke the latter being the Winemaker.  Located in the furthest corner of the beautiful Franschhoek valley, the farm’s name means “ravine of the Boekenhout” (pronounced Book-n-Howed). Boekenhout is an indigenous Cape Beech tree greatly prized for furniture making.  In 1993 the farm and homestead was bought and restored and a new vineyard planting programme was established that now includes Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Grenache, Semillon and Viognier.

Produced from a blend of Syrah, Grenache, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cinsault and Viognier, the colour is deep ruby with intense aromas of  rich black cherry, cardomom and sweet tobacco.  The palate is extremely complex with juicy flavours of ripe plum, black olives, cloves and liquorice. This is a medium bodied wine with elegant fine tannins and a beautiful lingering finish with hints of dried cranberry and smoke.

This will not disappoint served with a lovely Sirloin Steak, Beef Ragout or Mature Blue Cheese.
