Description
Having worked vintages in Champagne, Priorat and the Rhone and cutting his teeth at the Swartland winery Lammershoek, Albert Ahrens is now producing wines under ‘The Ahrens Family Wines’ label.
Produced from 100% Verdelho which is a classic grape variety associated with the fortified wines of Madeira, after a gentle pressing, the free run juice is fermented in white wine barrels using wild yeasts. The finished wine is then further aged in wood, then left to cold settle before bottling with minimal sulphite. These bottles are then capped and held onto for further aging.
An extremely sophisticated Verdelho, straw coloured with aromas of flower and spice, butter and smoke and wonderful mouth-filling flavours of lime, guava and white peach followed by a lingering and stylish finish.
This is an exceptionally rare wine with a total production of 382 bottles. For this vintage, The Wine Shed was granted a total allocation of 6 bottles. Each bottle is individually numbered. Best Drinking 2019 – 2029.
Delicious with Asian Cuisine, Shellfish and White Meaty Fish such as Monkfish.
