Description

Having worked vintages in Champagne, Priorat and the Rhone and cutting his teeth at the Swartland winery Lammershoek, Albert Ahrens is now producing wines under  ‘The Ahrens Family Wines’ label.

Bendewijn is Albert Ahrens  new range of rare, sometimes one-off, small parcel wines, amazingly beautiful in their simple, rustic presentation. The Grenache Gris is sourced from an 8-year-old vineyard on the Paardeberg, and harvested relatively early at lower sugar levels to maintain freshness. Fermented naturally on the skins for several days prior to pressing  (ie Orange Wine).  It then spends almost a year on primary lees, maturing in old 300-litre French oak barrels, then aged in bottle for six months prior to release.  With notes of Apricot and Stoned Fruit on the nose and a creamy texture on the palette, this wine has a distinctive long finish.

This wine is extremely  rare with a total production of 560 bottles.  Each bottle is individually numbered.

Pairs beautifully with Grilled  White Fish, Seared Scallops, Chicken Salad.
