Description

Situated to the north of the better known regions of Pouilly-Fumé and Sancerre, this wine from the small appellation of Côteaux du Giennois has only 91 hectares planted with Sauvignon vines, but what it lacks in output and renown, it more than makes up for in quality and value.

Domaine Villargeau is the benchmark producer of the Côteaux de Giennois. Having bought the farm in 1920 from Chateau de Tracy, the Villargeau family re-established the vineyard that had once covered the hillside before the outbreak of phylloxera in the late 19th Century. They now lead the way in the production of wine in this area.

Produced from 100% Sauvignon Blanc, harvested grapes are slow pressed for 2 hours, then settled for 12-18 hours. Fermentation at controlled temperatures takes place in stainless steel vats. The wine is aged on its lees to elevate the purity and intensely aromatic character of the wine, while adding a subtle weight and texture.

Pale straw colour with a slightly green hue. Citrus notes on the nose of grapefruit, lime  and gooseberry.  The palate shows notes of stoned fruit and citrus with a medium acidity and a lovely length with hints of apple.

Enjoy this wine with all fish, seafood and white meat dishes.
