A stunning Old Vine Garnacha, full of rich fruit and flavours from Almansa, Spain.
From a family owned and fourth generation, the Piqueras family have overseen the property since it was established in 1915. The Piqueras winery is in the winegrowing area of Almansa, in south-east Spain, some 40 miles from Alicante and the Mediterranean Sea. Characterised by its low fertility and low rainfall which, together with the semi-arid climate, combine to create the ideal conditions to produce richly aromatic wines of intense colour. With 45-60-year-old dry-farmed bush vines planted in cool and sandy plots, a wine with sweeter tannins is achieved whilst preserving the fruit on the palate. Bodegas Piqueras practices sustainable farming and is totally Organic.
The high altitude grapes are hand harvested selecting the best small bunches of grapes with optimal maturity. The fruit then undergoes continuous maceration at 25º for 2 weeks to preserve the primary aroma of the fruit and not extract to much tannin on the palate. It is aged in American fine grain medium-toasted oak casks for a period of 6 to 8 months. This is a rich and full bodied Wine with a deep ruby colour. Intense aromas of ripe dark fruit and fresh herbs followed by flavours of blackberry, ripe cherry with smooth juicy tannins and a silky soft finish.
