Description
The vines of Château Grinou are centred around the small village of Monestier where vines have been planted since the Middle Ages (1053). Owners Catherine and Guy Cuisset have now been joined by their two sons Gabriel and Julien.,whose new talents and enthusiasm helped switch the estate to be certified organic in 2009. They are also adopting new stratergies in the vinyard and cellar. A huge range of cover crops are planted between the rows of vines, such as oat, barley, field beans, peas, vetch and clover. This helps protect the soil from erosion, and provides valuable, free nitrogen fertiliser for the vines, as well as de-compacting the soil through root penetration. Soil with a good structure and access to nutrients helps maintain vine health, and the greater plant biodiversity also attracts a wealth of insect and plant life, helping keep pests at bay or at least in balance. A new label ‘’Les Petites Perdrix’ (The little partridges) the inspiration being the increasingly abundant numbers of these birds seen sheltering in the vineyards at Grinou. A good sign for sure
Produced from 50% Sauvugnon Blanc, 50% Semillon, matured on the lees in stainless steel to give extra body and flavour. Fresh and aromatic with lots of citrus and hertbal naunces. A slight creaminess on the mid-palate with a loveley soft acidity on the finish.
Delicious with any fish, particularly salmon, tuna and shellfish.
