Description

Damon and Jonothan Koerner,  Winners of the 2019 Young Gun of Wine award, produce wines  from a mix of unique and traditional varieties from the Watervale area, Clare Valley.  The winemaking philosophy is all about staying honest to the vineyard and the variety. Having grown up in the Clare Valley they spent time studying and working overseas and Australia.  The family vineyard ‘Gully View’ has been owned and managed by parents Christine and Anthony Koerner for over 40 years.  The wines are produced from fruit grown within 500m radius of Watervale with the majority coming from the family vineyard.  The brothers are currently implementing organic practices within the vineyard and this, together with an understanding of the terroir and the individual grape varieties, enables them to produce unique wines with minimal intervention.

The fruit from these 17 year old vines planted on Terra Rosa soil is handpicked over two days. Half the fruit is pressed immediately the other half has 24 hours of skin contact.  A natural fermentation in ceramic, stainless steel, and Barrique barrels for three weeks followed by 5 months on lees.  The wine is unrefined and unfiltered.

This beautiful wine is bright lemon yellow in colour, lovely aromas of soft tropical fruits with hints of honey and ripe pear.  Delightful flavours of melon, pear with some citrus notes fill the palate whilst a slightly creamy texture from lees aging is apparent.  Complex and balanced, this wine has a long elegant finish.

Exceptional with Langoustine, Lobster, Seared Scallops, Olives, Soft Cheeses.
