Description
Originally purchased in the late 1800s by Gustave Niebaum, a Finnish sea captain and wine connoisseur, the former farmland and orchards now hold some of the region’s most historic wine grapes, as well as a spectacular chateau restored to elegant perfection by the current owners, filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola. Inglenook boasts decades of history that spans the Napa Valley wine region. Together with his wife Eleanor, Coppola has spent 40 years restoring Inglenook’s heritage and bringing winemaking operations back to the Chateau. Their 1882 Cabernet first produced in 2012 is dedicated to Gustave Niebaum through the label which features a depiction of this cave-like cellar which he dug into the hillside to mature his wines.
Predominately Cabernet Sauvignon with a little Cabernet Franc and Merlot added for complexity, aged in French and American oak, with a deep ruby colour, the nose gives exquisite perfume of black cherries, raspberries with notes of spice. The palate is full and developed with flavours of blueberry and raspberry with rich tannins and a long and elegant finish.
Perfect accompaniment to Beef, Lamb and Game, also Rich Ragu Pasta and Mature Cheeses.
