Description
‘The love for country life and the passion for the cultivation of vines are the philosophy of our company.’ So say the Morini family, and with a history that dates back forty years, the wines of Ilatium Morini are a strictly family affair. Seven brothers and cousins run the winery and produce an exceptional range of wines typical of their location in Illasi in the province of Verona, including this Valpolicella Campo dei Ciliegi, which translates as ‘field of cherry trees’.
The modern winery has 40 hectares across the local area and offers a wide range of wines with varying characteristics. What is common amongst the production of Valpolicella Superiore and Amarone and wines, however, is the use of the appassimento technique of air-drying grapes which adds a new level of complexity to the wines.
This wine is intense garnet in colour with aromas of ripe cherries, blackcurrant and plums with hints of herb and earth. There is sour cherry on the palate underpinned by raisins and sultanas and a rich, soft tannic finish. Barrel ageing in French and American oak for 12 to 15 months adds intensity.
This wine is excellent with grilled steak, classic meaty pasta dishes and game.
