Description

Corey and Megan Hall established The Studio Wine Company in 2005 from where  they produce their label Gem. Based in West Auckland, they select small parcels of fruit from vineyard sites throughout New Zealand. With a hands-on approach to the winemaking, they spend a significant amount of time in the vineyards and winery to make sure they get the results they want, at every stage of the process.  Grown on a single vineyard in Martinborough, the fruit is handpicked, crushed and de-stemmed into small fermenters the must was cold soaked for four days and an indigenous ferment allowed to start. This was then  hand plunged twice daily, and pumped over once at the height of the ferment. At the completion of the primary ferment the must was pressed to French barriques (20% new). Malolactic fermentation allowed to take place and the wine matured for 12 months prior to bottling.

This is an earthy Pinot Noir with notes of Cherry, Currant, Plum and Raspberry together with Toast, Spice and a hint of Forest Floor. The palate is supported by firm well integrated tannins,  soft acidity and a pleasure filled lengthy finish.

Exceptional with Terrine, Game, Lamb and Beef, also Mature Blue Cheese.
