Dr. Loosen Ürziger Würzgarten Riesling Auslese

The Dr. Loosen estate has been in the family for over 200 years and possesses some of Germany’s most respected and spectacular vineyards. All of the vineyards are sustainably managed according to strict German environmental regulations.  From sites in the villages of Bermkastel, Graach, Wehlen, Urzig and Erden, some of the vines are up to 140 years old growing on different types of soils like red slate, red volcanic soil and  blue slate.

Auslese means ‘selected late harvest’ and here the grapes have been allowed to hang longer on the vine, some to develop Botrytis (Noble Rot) which results in a deeply concentrated wine with a sweetness like nectar.  Extraordinary aromas and flavours of peach, candied lemon, herbs and mineral with hints of sweet spice are apparent.  The palate shows great balance between sweetness and acidity, a juicy, honeyed texture and an enjoyable  finish.

Great with Shellfish but equally good with a Spicy Dish, Charcuterie,White Meat or a creamy blue Cheese.
