Craft Farm Lyons Vineyard Syrah

John and Shona Lyons are the owners of Lyons Hillside Vineyard which is located in Bridge Pa, Hawkes Bay.  The Craft Farm range of wines are classic single site expressions that showcase the essence of varietal and place.  All the Grapes were planted over three consecutive years from 2010 and are grown without irrigation using an organic farming approach, although not certified organic.  Much of the work on the Farm is done by hand with the help of friends and family and the use of one vintage tractor.

The grapes were hand-picked and de-stemmed into an open top fermenter. 10% of the grapes were left as whole bunches. The grapes soaked for one week prior to fermentation with vineyard yeasts. At the end of fermentation the young wine was pressed off and immediately run to barrel for malolactic fermentation All barrels were French oak (50% new) and a mixture of sizes.  All barrels were blended together, sulphured and settled prior to bottling without fining or filtration.
The Wine has a mid red colour with a purple hue.  Aromas of concentrated Blueberry and Raspberry dominate with notes of spice and violet.  The palate has structured weight and concentration with savoury and spice notes coming from the maturation on lees.   Soft tannins give a  pleasant mouthfeel and satisfying finish.

Excellent with Beef, Lamb, Game Dishes and Mature Cheeses.
