The Vignobles Darriet’s history began in 1798 when M. Alfred Darriet started making wine on his Loupiac property using grapes affected by botrytis. This produced the white sweet wine Château Dauphiné-Rondillon. Clos du Chateau de Cadillac was purchased by the family in 1809. A rare site as it is located in the centre of the town with 2 Hectares for red and 0.5 Hectares for white, the unique terroir of clayey chalk allows the vines to produce exceptional wines. The walls which encircle the vines (which grow in exactly the same place as the castles original orchards) date back to the XIII century.
Produced from a typical Bordeaux blend of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, the fermentation is 8 to 10 days with pumping-over twice a day to achieve optimal extraction of flavour, long maceration followed by malolactic fermentation in tanks. The wine is aged in barrels for 18 months. The result is a beautiful red colour, with aromas of cherry, strawberry, raspberry and woody notes. Flavours of cherry, raspberry and cranberry show on the palate with lovely soft tannins and a beautiful rounded finish.
Perfect with Roast Beef, Roast Lamb, Mature Cheeses.
