Description

Churchill’s are an Anglo-Portuguese port and Douro wine producer.  Founded by John Graham in 1981 with the intention to bring a afresh new vibe to the traditional world of Port.  Today with the assistance of the next generation, he is still producing the wine and running the company.  Churchill are the last remaining British Port House producing a range of innovative Douro terroir wines from their beloved vineyard Quinta da Gricha.  This is where the first ageing takes place produced from a blend of old vines.

All Churchill Ports are produced from Grade A grapes that art handpicked, hand-sorted and foot trod in the ancient legares (treading tanks).  The young port spends its first winter in the Douro and then is transported in the early spring to ageing lodges in Vila Nova de Gaia (Porto). Here it is matured in seasoned oak vats for one year, at which point the decision was made that the wine was of such quality to declare a Vintage Year. At this point, they were bottled and stored in our cellars.  Intense in colour with mineral qualities, the 2011 Vintage has a concentrated berry nose, a fresh resinous palate and excellent natural acidity which provides the blend with a firm tannic structure that ensures greater longevity.  Decanting is recommended 2 hours prior to service.  Will age beautifully for 50+ years but intended to show best 2031-2060.

Perfect served with Mature Blue Cheeses
