Description
Chateau Musar was the first producer in Lebanon to achieve organic certification for its vineyards in 2006. Most are located in the Bekaa Valley, cradled between two mountain ranges running parallel to Lebanon’s Mediterranean coastline. Vines have been cultivated here for at least 6,000 years.
Flanked by snow-covered mountains, and nestled (3,000 feet) above sea level, Chateau the Musar vineyards were ‘organic’ by default. All the grapes are hand-harvested by local Bedouins between August and October. In the Winery, ambient yeasts are used for fermentation and little sulphur is used.
Chateau Musar White is a blend of ancient grape varieties Obaideh and Merwah, indigenous to the mountains of Lebanon and said to be related to Chardonnay and Semillon. The Obaideh vineyards are in the foothills of the Anti-Lebanon mountains on stony, chalky soils, while the Merwah vines are on the seaward side of Mount Lebanon, on calcareous gravels. Fermented in French Oak Barriques for 9 months, bottled and blended the first year and released after 7 years.
Pale gold in colour with aromas of orange peel, peach blossom, lemon and pear. The palate has notes of stone fruits with orange zest and a fresh acidity. The finish is long. An amazingly complex wine produced from some of the oldest vineyards in the world.
Exceptionally good with Seafood, Salmom, Tuna, Pasta Dishes
