Description

Chateau du Cedre is one of the leading lights of the Cahors region of Southwest France. Founded in the early 20th century by Leon Verhaeghe, the farm originally grew mixed crops. It wasn’t until 1958 when Leon’s son Charles took over that the wine business was established. Today the estate is run by Charles’s sons Pascal and Jean-Marc. There are 27 hectares in total and the estate has been certified organic since 2012. The main grape varieties grown here are Malbec,  Tannat and Merlot. Four cuvees are made of which ‘Heritage’ is the estate red, made from 95% Malbec and 5% Merlot. 20% of the wine is aged in oak for up to 18 months resulting in a dark and complex wine.

The delicious Malbec is almost is a deep red almost black colour, with  complex aromas of plums, cherries and white pepper.  Wonderful flavours of blueberry and passion fruit are supported by a spicy backbone with  Savoury notes from the Malbec. Medium to full-bodied in texture with a good firm tannic structure the finish is long and most enjoyable.

Perfect accompaniment for a  Prime Rib of Beef or a Beef Bourguignon,  Pepperoni Pizza, Mature Blue Cheeses.
