Castello Tricerchi extends over 400 hectares on the northern slopes of Montalcino. 13 hectares are dedicated to the cultivation of Sangiovese Grosso, the vines which produce Brunello and Rosso di Montalcino. The Castle of the Tricerchi family, completed in 1441, dominates the property and is now the home and headquarters of the Tricerchis’ direct ancestors, the Squarcia family. The vines are planted on the northern slopes of Montalcino, which are characterised by cooler temperatures and marked thermal variations. There are 13 hectares of vines, all of them which surround the castle in 7 separate plots which are almost exclusively north facing which allows for uniform ripening. Cultivation methods are based on organic principles and respect for the terroir.
The grapes for this beautiful wine are hand picked and selected. Fermented using local yeasts with long periods of grape skin maceration, the wine is refined using traditional methods, then aged in the cellars of the 600 year old Castle in Slavonian durmast barrels, to bring out the flavours of the Sangiovese grapes. This luscious wine is deep ruby red with aromas plum, blackcurrant with notes of spice and earthy undertones. Intense flavours of dark ripe berries with a touch of violet with lovely smooth tannins and a long elegant finish.
Delicious with red meats, casseroles, tomato-based sauces and ripe cheese.
