Description
This family-run business was founded 50 years ago by Elia Bizios’s father, and in 1998 a new winery was established – Ktima Bizios. Located in the village of Asporokambos in the quality wine region of Nemea, this tiny estate is run on strict organic principles.
Elia Bizios is both the viticulturist and winemaker and places all his efforts and passion into making wines of the highest quality. Low yields and deeply concentrated fruit is what he looks for whilst always respecting the environment: his wines are a true reflection of the care and dedication afforded to the land and vines that bear the fruit.
If you tasted this wine blind, you may think you were tasting a top-end red from Bordeaux. Elia himself describes it as: ‘a boldly complex, fruity and spicy red wine with great ageing potential from old vine Agiorgitiko. Aromas of smoke, vanilla and oak on the nose are joined by notes of cherry and strawberry preserves on the palate. [It is] full bodied with soft tannins that end in a long finish.’ Who are we to disagree?
This wine was simply made for lamb – what else in Greece! It also goes well with meats cooked with rich sauces, and smoked cheeses.
