Description

The Guerrieri Rizzardi estate takes its name from two historically important families: the Guerrieri family has owned vineyards in Bardolino since the 15th century and the Rizzardi family in Negrar (Valpolicella) since the 17th century. At the beginning of the last century, a “new” family estate emerged from the marriage of Count Carlo Rizzardi and Countess The Estate is farmed organically although it is not certified by choice,  the family believe that as they have worked in a responsible biological way for generations, a Certification is not necessary as their customers know their sense of responsibility to the land and nature.

Single vineyard Calcarole Amarone is only produced in the best vintages and in limited quantities. Calcarole is a “cru” above the Villa di Rovereti in the heart of Negrar in the Valpolicella Classico Area. This vineyard is ideally suited due to its particularly warm climate and stony soil and it south west aspect. Sourced from mature vines, the grapes are harvested by hand and picked when they are at the ideal ripeness to undergo drying. The hand selected grapes are naturally dried in boxes and then fermented and pressed. Calcarole Amarone can be cellared for many years.

This superb wine has intense flavours of ripe red fruit giving way to concentrated jammy fruit, underpinned by dried fruit, chocolate, coffee and leather. It’s rich and luscious with a long finish – a wine to savour.

Decant for several hours and serve at 16° C with roasted or braised beef/lamb or game dishes such as venison.
