Description

The Levasseur Estate is run by David Levasseur, a steadfast nonconformist. His micro-grower Champagne house, which was established by his grandfather in the 1940s and which takes its name from his father Albert, produces little more than 30,000 bottles per year from his own 4 hectares of vineyards spread over 18 organically farmed plots around the villages of Cuchéry, Fleury-la-Rivière and Châtillon-sur-Marne.

Crucially, David gives a leading role to the Meunier grape – so often relegated to the wings – which flourishes in the cool climate of David’s oldest plot, Les Gautelleries, planted in 1973, resulting in a star-quality production.

This driest style of Champagne made from Meunier, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes, which has been aged for four years on the lees, has flavours of apple, citrus, apricot and peach giving way to toast and almond with hints of gingerbread, minerality and white pepper– all the complexity expected from Champagne.

This Champagne is delicious on its own or try it with a range of light salads, fish or cheese.
