The Villa Wolf estate (founded as J.L. Wolf) lies in the picturesque village of Wachenheim in the Pfalz region in Germany. It is named after the beautiful Italianate Villa which was built in 1843 in an era of great success for this region. Ernst Loosen of the Dr. Loosen Estate in the Mosel area took over the winery in 1996. His idea was to bring the experience in Riesling winemaking from the Mosel to the Pfalz, as well as producing wines from grapes that are typical for the Pfalz area, such as Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc, Gewürztraminer and Dornfelder. The Pfalz region, often called ‘the Tuscany of Germany’ is sunnier and warmer than you would expect from a northern clime, so these varieties of grapes grow exceptionally well here. Villa Wolf’s wine philosophy is based on the belief that great wines are created in the vineyard. They work closely with nature, using sustainable practices that permit the vines to grow in a balanced environment.
This dry Riesling from the Pfalz region has flavours of peach with a slight hint of grapefruit underpinned by touches of stone. With medium body and balanced acidity it’s an excellent example of its type.
This wine pairs well with fish, chicken and pork.
